Balogun Concludes Sabbatical Leave With Well Deserved Laurels

Professor Joseph Abiodun Balogun, FAS, Distinguished Professor in the College of Health Sciences at Chicago State University (CSU) recently concluded his sabbatical leave after 10-week's visit to Nigeria. Last year, he was appointed Emeritus Professor of Physiotherapy at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Nigeria. During this recent visit, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Professor Friday Okonofua, also appointed him Associate Director of Research Development and Innovation. In this new role, Professor Balogun will assist UNIMED to garner external grants and advise faculty on research collaboration opportunities with foreign institutions.
 
Professor Balogun was appointed Visiting Professor and Program Consultant at the Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI), University of Benin, Benin City.  Also, he was appointed as a Consultant and Advisory Board Member at the Women's Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC), Benin City, Nigeria. - WHARC is a non-profit and charitable organization founded in 1993 to promote reproductive health through research and advocacy; and dedicated to providing lasting solutions to female reproductive related problems.
 
While in Nigeria, Professor Balogun co-taught the Introduction to Physiotherapy course at UNIMED and also presented lectures on Research Methods and Biostatistics to master's and doctoral students at  CERHI, University of Benin. He also presented a two-day workshop on "Promoting Scholarship of Discovery in Health Professions." The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy Similarly sponsored the seminar, Professor Balogun co-presented another seminar on "Research Methodology, Data Analysis, and Publication" for clinicians in the West African region. The CERHI hosted the five-day workshop.  He was appointed as the International Editor of the Kanem Journal of Medical Sciences published at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria.
 
To fulfill CSU's sabbatical, leave contractual requirement, Professor Balogun completed writing a book titled "The Health Professions in Contemporary Nigeria: Evolutions and Emerging Paradigms." The book is due for release early in 2020. He also co-edited with Professor Friday Okonofua, and Professor Adekunle Odunsi, another book titled "Contemporary Obstetrics and Gynecology in Developing Countries." The book is contracted to be published by Cambridge Scholar's Press London and is due for release by December 2019.
 
Professor Balogun finalized the transfer of funds to four universities with physiotherapy program that indicated interest in the endowed scholarship prize award program that he launched last year. Professor Balogun fully committed all the proceeds from his memoir to fund this program. He has already presented checks to officials at the four universities - UNIMED, Ondo City, Bowen University, Iwo, University of Ibadan, Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
